Long Common Name:  Heparin neutralization [Presence] in Blood by Thromboelastography
Short Name:  Heparin Nt Bld Ql TEG
Display Name:  Heparin neutralization TEG Ql (Bld)

  Part: Heparin neutralization
Heparin neutralization refers to specimens treated with heparinase to inactivate heparin that may interfere with a coagulation assay.
  Part: Thromboelastography
Thromboelastography (TEG) is a viscoelastic test of hemostasis. In TEG, whole blood is added to a cup in which a pin is suspended, the cup is rotated, and as the clot forms, the rotational force is transferred to the pin. The torsion of the pin is transformed into a graphic record of the physical shape of a clot during fibrin formation and lysis. TEG can provide information about the status of coagulation factors, platelet function and fibrinolysis in whole blood. TEG is primarily used for assessment of hemostasis after cardiopulmonary bypass, during liver transplant surgery, or hemorrhaging episodes. TEG parameters are also used as part of the guiding algorithms for plasma, platelet and cryoprecipitate transfusions.

Change Reason: The PrThr property is used for LOINC terms whose results are reported using an ordered categorical scale, regardless of whether or not an internal threshold was used to make that determination. This change was approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.
