Version 2.77

Description

Cutibacterium acnes (formerly known as Propionibacterium acnes), a slow-growing Gram-positive biofilm-forming rod implicated in acne vulgaris, is part of the normal flora of human skin, conjunctiva, oral cavity and large intestines. Although frequently thought to be a culture contaminant, it has been implicated in cases of endocarditis, endopthalmitis, intravascular infections, central nervous system infections and arthritis. It is increasingly recognized for its role in implant-associated infections, where diagnosis is challenging due to its fastidious nature and slow growth PMID: 29125405. Source: Regenstrief LOINC
