Description

Crotoxyphos is a light straw colored liquid and an organophosphate insecticide that is lethal to insects that ingest or come in contact with it. It is used on lactating dairy and beef cattle, swine, goats, horses, and sheep to combat flies, lice and ticks. Like all organophosphates, crotoxyphos is extremely poisonous if inhaled, absorbed through the skin, or ingested. Symptoms of exposure include weakness, incoordination, muscle twitching, tremor, nausea, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, sweating. Extreme exposure can lead to blurred or dark vision, confusion, tightness in the chest, wheezing, productive cough, pulmonary edema, incontinence, unconsciousness, and convulsions. Slowing of the heart rate may result in complete cardiac arrest. Crotoxyphos is only slightly toxic to birds, fish and beneficial insects.[http://pmep.cce.cornell.edu/profiles/insect-mite/cadusafos-cyromazine/crotoxyphos/insect-prof-crotoxyphos.html]Crotoxyphos has been used to treat human lice.[https://www.google.com/patents/US6103248] Source: Regenstrief LOINC
