Version 2.77

Description

The degree of glandular differentiation or tubule formation in breast carcinoma is one component of the Nottingham histologic grade (NHG) [LOINC: 44648-4], which is a prognostic indicator for patients with breast carcinoma. The two other components of the NHG are nuclear pleomorphism [LOINC: 44645-0] and mitotic activity [LOINC: 85300-2]. Less aggressive cancers have more tubule formation, with scores assigned as follows:
1 = greater than 75% of the tumor area contains tubular or glandular structures
2 = 10 to 75% of the tumor area contains tubular structures
3 = less than 10% of the tumor area contains tubular structures
