Normetanephrine is an extra-neuronal catechol-0-methyl transferase (COMT) metabolite of the catecholamine norepinephrine. Measurement of plasma metanephrines is more sensitive (but may be less specific) than measurement of catecholamines for the detection of pheochromocytoma. Source: Regenstrief Institute
