Version 2.77

Descriptions

Plasma cells (or plasmocytes) are cells of the immune system that secrete large amounts of antibodies. They differentiate from B cells upon stimulation by antigen-activated CD4+ lymphocytes (or T lymphocytes) . They are found in the medulla of the lymph node, in the bone marrow and in the red pulp of the spleen. The differentiation of B cells into plasma cells is accompanied by many morphological changes that allow the cell to synthesize and secrete large amounts of antibodies. Specialized forms of antibody-producing B-lymphocytes. They synthesize and secrete immunoglobulin. They are found only in lymphoid organs and at sites of immune responses and normally do not circulate in the blood or lymph.
