Term Description

Qualitative analysis of mumps virus IgG antibodies in body fluid to aid in determining a patient's serological status to measles virus. This term is based on, but not limited in use to, the LIAISON® Measles IgG assay uses chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) technology for the semi-quantitative determination of specific IgG antibodies to measles virus.

Part Descriptions

LP14251-0   Mumps virus
Mumps or epidemic parotitis is a viral disease of humans. Prior to the development of a vaccine, it was a common childhood disease worldwide, and is still a significant threat to health in the third world. Painful swelling of the salivary glands (classically the parotid gland) and fever are the most typical symtoms. Painful testicular swelling and rash may also occur. Whereas symptoms are generally not severe in children, in teenagers and adults they can be more severe and complications such as infertility or subfertility may occur. The disease is generally self-limiting, and there is no specific treatment apart from controlling the symptoms with painkillers. Mumps Classifications and external resources ICD-10 B 26. LP7238-1   Body fld
The LOINC "Body fld" System represents body fluids other than serum, plasma, blood, urine, and cerebrospinal fluid. When a LOINC term with the System "Body fld" is used, the specific specimen source or body fluid type should be reported elsewhere with the result. Where more specific terms for pleural, peritoneal, synovial fluid, etc. exist, we encourage you to use the more specific terms. In contrast to "Body fld", the System "Asp" in LOINC represents the fluid withdrawn during an aspiration procedure from an abnormal collection of fluid, such as from an abscess or cyst. "Asp" is used for abnormal fluid collections that are aspirated, while "Body fld" is used for named body fluids, such as synovial fluid or peritoneal fluid, that are not inherently pathologic. Change Reason
The PrThr property is used for LOINC terms whose results are reported using an ordered categorical scale, regardless of whether or not an internal threshold was used to make that determination. This change was approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.; The EIA method, which was always intended to cover more than just enzyme-linked immunoassay and whose display name for the long common name has always been Immunoassay, was renamed IA in order to eliminate ambiguity about whether the method has a broader meaning than just enzyme-linked immunoassay. Likewise, EIA.rapid was renamed IA.rapid. These changes were approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.
